Some sessions feel extra special, and Shaye and Dawson’s senior session in Cades Cove was definitely one of those. From the location to the timing to their easygoing personalities, everything came together in the best way possible.

Shaye had her heart set on a Cades Cove senior photo session from the very beginning. The wide open fields, historic cabins, and peaceful Smoky Mountain scenery were exactly the vibe she wanted for her senior portraits. When the government shutdown was announced, though, it gave us a bit of a scare. We quickly put together a backup plan that involved exploring all around Wears Valley, just in case Cades Cove stayed closed.

Luck was on our side — Cades Cove reopened the day before our session. Talk about perfect timing.

Shaye and Dawson are twins, and not only are they blonde, blue-eyed beauties, they are also so much fun to be around. The kind of session where conversation flows easily, laughter comes naturally, and posing never feels forced. We spent the evening playing in the open fields, laying in the grass, and wandering through the historic cabins that make Cades Cove so timeless and beautiful.

Golden hour showed up right on cue, bathing everything in that soft, warm light photographers dream about. Unfortunately, time got the best of us. Nightfall came before we could make it down to the stream for photos — but that just means this isn’t the end. I told Shaye that if she’s ever back in the Smokies, we’ll finish things off with a river session, and I truly hope we get the chance.

Senior sessions like this one are a reminder of how fleeting and meaningful this season of life is. Shaye, thank you so much for trusting me to capture your senior year — it was an honor. And Dawson, thank you for being such a great sport and bringing your own personality into the session.
