When Julie first reached out about her family session, she knew exactly where she wanted to go — Cades Cove. And honestly, I can never argue with that choice! It’s one of the most iconic spots in the Smokies, and it always delivers the most beautiful backdrops.

I’ll admit, I was a little nervous about how busy it might be on a Saturday… but we got lucky! It wasn’t too crowded, and we were able to move around, take our time, and really enjoy the experience. Even better, there was still a little bit of fall color hanging on in the trees, which added the perfect touch to their photos.

Julie and her husband, Lynn, brought along their four kids, and it turned into such a special extended family session. The kids brought their boyfriends and girlfriends, and cousin Logan joined in too — making it a full crew and such a fun group to photograph. Sessions like this are always so meaningful because they capture not just immediate family, but the season of life everyone is in right now.

We spent our time exploring different areas of Cades Cove to get as much variety as possible. We started in the open fields with those classic wide mountain views, stopped by one of the rustic cabins for that timeless Smoky Mountain feel, and made sure to soak in all the little in-between moments along the way.

What I loved most about this session was how natural everything felt. There was so much laughter, a little bit of playful chaos (my favorite!), and just genuine connection between everyone. That’s always my goal — not just to pose you, but to create space for real moments to happen.

Julie’s family made my job easy. They were relaxed, go-with-the-flow, and up for anything — which is exactly how the best sessions happen.
If you’re visiting the Smokies and thinking about doing a family session, Cades Cove is always a beautiful option, especially if you want a mix of mountain views, open fields, and that classic rustic charm all in one place.

Julie, thank you so much for trusting me to capture these memories for your family. It was such a joy spending the evening with you all! 💛
