Some sessions are calm and quiet… and then there are sessions like the Petka family’s — full of movement, laughter, and boys who are always on the go. This one was pure chaos in the very best way.

As someone who is very partial to photographing boys, this session felt right up my alley. These little cuties kept me and their parents on our toes from start to finish, and honestly, that’s where the magic happens. When kids are free to be themselves, the photos tell a much richer story.

Mom chose a beautiful open field with plenty of space for the boys to run, explore, and burn off energy. It was the perfect location for this crew. Gunnar — lovingly nicknamed “Gunnar the runner” — made it very clear that running through the field was far more exciting than stopping to pose for photos. But between all the sprinting and exploring, I managed to snag some incredibly sweet, genuine moments that perfectly capture this season of life.

This golden hour session was also a wonderful way to showcase the very beginning of fall here in the Smokies. The soft evening light paired with subtle pops of fall color created such a warm, timeless backdrop for their family photos.

Sessions like this are a reminder that perfection isn’t the goal — connection is. And the Petka family brought plenty of it. I’m so grateful they trusted me to capture their family just as they are right now: energetic, joyful, and full of love.

Thank you again, Petka family, for such a fun evening and for allowing me to document these memories for you. These are the moments you’ll look back on and smile for years to come.
