The Upshaw family traveled all the way from Utah to visit the Great Smoky Mountains, and I was so excited when Heather reached out to book a session during their trip. Photographing families who are visiting from out of state is always such a treat — it gives them a way to take a piece of the Smokies home with them.

On the day of their session, we had quite the adventure. As we started driving up the mountain, the rain began to pour. I kept hoping we’d drive out of it, and thankfully, about two-thirds of the way up, the skies cleared and we were greeted with the most gorgeous view. The light, the mountain backdrop, and the fresh air after the rain made the evening feel magical.

The Upshaw kids made the experience even better. Kade and Kannon were such good sports through it all, and Savannah was a complete natural in front of the camera — she has the sweetest spirit and was so fun to photograph. Together, this family brought such positivity and laughter to the session, which shines through in every image.
