When I received the request for the Wilkinson family photo session, I knew it was going to be a memorable one. With 24 family members—14 of them being energetic kids—it promised to be both a fun challenge and an opportunity to capture some incredible moments. The Wilkinson family definitely kept me on my toes, but in the best possible way!
Jewel, the matriarch of this large family, had a bit of apprehension when it came to scheduling a photographer. She had been burned in the past by a photographer who didn’t deliver, so understandably, she wanted to make sure this session would be different. To ensure Jewel felt comfortable and confident in my services, I stayed in close communication with her leading up to the session. I made sure she knew exactly what to expect and reassured her that I would show up and deliver the photos she hoped for. By the time we were together for the session, I felt that trust and connection, and it was so rewarding to know I could ease her worries.
Despite the cold and windy conditions, we made the most of the day, moving quickly but efficiently as the family took turns heading outside for their photos. It was an overcast day, which meant the light was a bit flat, but that didn’t stop us from getting some beautiful shots. I ended up bumping up the vibrance a bit in editing, which brought out the richness of the colors, and the results were fantastic.
With so many people—especially 14 kids—it was a bit of a juggling act, but we managed to capture some stunning moments. The kids were full of energy, which made for some fun shots, and the adults were so patient as we worked our way through different groupings and combinations. There were plenty of laughs and playful moments as we tried to corral the little ones, but everyone was in great spirits, making the session enjoyable for all.
I have to say, the Wilkinson family was incredibly sweet. They made me feel like part of the family right from the start, and I could tell how much they genuinely care for one another. The bond between them was so clear, and that really came through in the photos. From the older generations to the littlest ones, everyone was so loving and full of joy.
As we wrapped up the session, I felt so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a kind and welcoming family. Despite the challenges of working with a large group in chilly weather, we captured some truly special moments that reflect the love and connection this family shares.
Thank you, Jewel, for trusting me to document these memories for you! I’m so happy we were able to get these beautiful images, and I hope they serve as a reminder of the love, joy, and togetherness that make your family so special. Wishing you all many more happy moments together!
