When I first received the booking for the Marcum family’s photo session, I didn’t anticipate how adventurous it would become! It was one of those chilly, windy days in the Smoky Mountains where the weather couldn’t quite decide if it was going to snow or not. The temperatures were low, and the wind was fierce, making me wonder if I should cancel the session. But after thinking it through, I decided to go ahead and venture out—I’m so glad I did, because the Marcum family made every moment of the day worth it!

We met at the Marcum family’s rental cabin, perched high on the mountain with breathtaking views of the Smokies. The wind was particularly strong on the mountaintop, but despite the chilly air, the views were spectacular. I could already tell that this family was going to be so much fun, and I was excited to work with them.

Given how cold it was, we quickly decided that the majority of our session would take place indoors. That didn’t stop us from getting some beautiful shots in front of the cabin, though! Even though the weather was less than ideal, the Marcum family was so full of warmth and love that it made the cold temperatures seem like nothing.

The kids were absolutely amazing. They were so well-behaved and patient throughout the session, even though we were moving between indoor and outdoor shots. It’s always a joy to work with kids who are so easygoing and natural in front of the camera, and they really made the session extra special.

Symeta, the mom, was incredibly hospitable. She made sure I was comfortable, and she was so thoughtful in asking if I needed anything. Above all, she was concerned about my safety, especially when it came to getting back down the mountain. The weather had made the roads a bit tricky, but Symeta’s kindness and attention to detail made me feel completely at ease. Her warmth and care were evident not just in how she treated me, but in the way she interacted with her family. It was clear that she was dedicated to making the day special for everyone.

Even though we had to adapt to the weather, we still got some fantastic family photos that truly capture the Marcum family’s connection and joy. Their time together was filled with laughter, love, and plenty of cozy moments. By the end of the session, I felt incredibly grateful to have met such a sweet, thoughtful family.
